History of Croquet

John Jaques II first saw a similar version of the game being played in Ireland and in1864 he wrote the book “Croquet: The Laws and Regulations” these rules (apart from a few minor revisions) are still adhered to today. The Author Lewis Carroll who famously wrote the Alice in Wonderland books used the game of Croquet in “Alice’s Adventures Underground”. There were several companies that started to manufacture Croquet during this time but only John Jaques & Son continue to do so, still manufacturing superior Croquet sets and accessories at their head quarters in Edenbridge, Kent.
